As one who respects all writers, I have grown weary of fiction contests that charge entry
fees. Thus, I am launching the following annual awards for fiction (please note: all entries
must be original, unpublished works):
I.
The InnermoonLit Award for Best Short-Short Story Maximum word count: 500
words. All writers are welcome to enter, and all authors shall retain the rights to their
works. First prize: $100; second prize: $50; third prize: $25 and a signed copy of one of my
novels. Deadline: September 1. Click here to read the complete guidelines and/or to
submit online.
II.
The InnermoonLit Award for Best First Chapter of a Novel Maximum word count:
2,000 words. All genres welcome; once again, writers retain all rights to their works and
there is no entry fee. First prize: $100; second prize: $50; third prize: $25 and a signed
copy of one of my novels. This contest is now closed. Submissions for the 2009 contest will
be accepted starting September 1, 2008.
The name of these contests, "InnermoonLit," derives from Allen Ginsberg's famous
admonition to: "Follow your inner moonlight; Don't hide the madness. You say what you
want to say when you don't care who's listening."
It will not cost you a dime to
enter any of these
contests--no entry fee, no
postage, no SASE, no paper
or toner!
Just email me your submission
by 11:59 p.m. EST on the
appropriate deadlines. Let me
know which contest you are
entering and give me your
word count in the subject line
of your email, and send your
submission in the text of the
email message (i.e., not as an
attached file).
Or, you can submit online
using the links on the right.
In the interest of fairness,
please submit anonymously.
I will contact the winners via
email, at which point you can
give me your real name so that
I can acknowledge you on my
website and in my newsletter.
For more detailed writers'
guidelines, click on the links (at
the right) for each specific
contest.
Thanks for you interest, and
good luck!
